TLC Describes Barriers to Digital Inclusion

TLC members were invited to present to the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband on March 17 to share insights and recommendations on increasing broadband adoption.

See our summary along with Ann Treacy’s notes on the session overall.  This presentation will be a base for our team to work from to make policy recommendations to the National Digital Inclusion Alliance at the Net Summit in May.  Please contact us to get involved in policy work at the state or national level.

National Digital Inclusion Alliance

A national alliance of community organizations, libraries, as well as other institutions has formed to tackle digital disparities at a whole new level. The National Digital Inclusion Alliance works “To craft, identify and disseminate operational resources for digital inclusion programs while serving as a bridge to policymakers and the general public.”

Do you want to get on that bridge? As the need for broadband adoption is getting heightened attention – and, the hope being resources – from federal agencies, now is an opportune time for broadband practitioners and those working in digital literacy programs to unify and utilize their collective voice, based upon on-the-ground experience, in order to make an impact.

RFP Released for Minneapolis Community Technology Survey

INVITATION: The City of Minneapolis Information Technology (IT) Department is soliciting proposals from qualified consultants for professional surveying services to plan and conduct a series of surveys of Minneapolis residents regarding computer and internet use. The surveys are referred to as the Minneapolis Community Technology Surveys and are primarily used to determine the state of the digital divide in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis IT Department has conducted a Community Technology Survey in 2012, 2013, and 2014 and would like to continue the survey over the next several years to measure changes in the community over time.

IT is seeking proposals from a variety of research organizations to evaluate current professional research options and opportunities within the surveying industry as part of the extended commitment to this project.  The desired contract period will be up to six (6) years to conduct up to three (3) resident surveys.
